What is a National Insurance Number?
Your National Insurance number (âNINOâ) helps the Government record your National Insurance contributions and taxes your pay. It is also your reference number for the whole benefits system. Your NINO is unique to you but it is not a form of identity. You must never use someone elseâs NINO. Every person over 16 in England has their own number.
